Weber, a Queensland burger chain, has been fined $1 million after a complaint was made about its “inappropriate and inappropriate” practices.
The Queensland Competition and Consumer Commission (CCC) has found that Weber “inappropriately and inappropriate practices” were found at three locations in Wigwam, including a steakhouse where customers were told to order food before their meal.
It found the restaurant was in breach of the Queensland Food and Beverage Act, and that the owner of the steakhouse, John Weber Jr, was not “fit and proper to operate” as a business.
The CCC found that the restaurant, at Wigwey, was a “public nuisance”, and that it had breached “the provisions of the Retail and Business Licensing Act”.
The CCCC found that weber failed to ensure that all of its employees, including managers, attended mandatory training courses, and it failed to conduct proper audits.
“The breach was serious and widespread,” the CCC said in its decision.
“Weber failed in its duty to protect its employees from serious and prolonged danger.”
Weber, which operates in Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra, was also fined $10,000 for breaching the Consumer Protection Act.
